Stop Comparing Nigeria To South Africa — Finance Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has warned Nigerians to stop comparing Nigeria with South Africa.

She pointed out that South Africa is a tax-based economy, while Nigeria on the other hand is competing with Sudan in the area of taxation.

The minister disclosed this on Monday while defending the government’s Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper.

According to the minister, most high earners in Nigeria are not paying taxes, particularly at the state level.

FG Spends ₦18.397Bn On Petrol Subsidy Daily – Ahmed Zainab

Due to the instabilty in the sale and distribution of petroleum products, the Nigerian House of Representatives’ Ad Hoc Committee which had been installed to investigate the Petroleum Products Subsidy Regime from 2013 to 2022 had  on Thursday, queried the Nigerian Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, over some of the payments of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Zainab Ahmed on her part had also disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria spends over ₦283 per litre of PMS or ₦18.397bn per day as subsidy.

Ms. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, expressed optimism for the third quarter of this year when the Second Niger Bridge is completed and formally inaugurated, which is expected to increase trade and commercial activities in the South South and South East geopolitical zones.
