Osinbajo Lists Projects To Be Completed In Next Few Years

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said having instituted reforms covering critical sectors of the economy over the past four years, Nigeria under the Buhari administration is making steady progress on the path of prosperity.

US Job Creation In 2019 Slowest In 8 Years

America’s solid job creation continued in December but gains in for 2019 were the lowest in eight years, according to the closely-watched government report released Friday.

After a decade of rising employment, hiring last year slowed notably from the brisk pace seen in 2018: With 2.1 million jobs created, that made 2019 the weakest year since 2011, according to the Labor Department data.

The economy added an average of 175,000 new positions a month last year, a sharp drop from the 225,000 monthly average in the prior year.

EFCC Set To Probe Peter Odili After 13-Years

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it will reopen the investigation of Peter Odili, former governor of Rivers state.

In 2007, Odili got a court injunction preventing the EFCC from investigating or arresting him.

The court order also restrained the anti-graft agency from probing the finances of the Rivers state government.

EFCC has Named Rivers State as Number two Headquarters of Money Laundering.

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC, on a visit to Port Harcourt on Tuesday said investigation into allegations of money laundering against the former governor would be reopened.

China Jails Protestant Pastor For 9 Years

China on Monday jailed the leader of an unofficial Protestant church for nine years for “incitement to subvert state power”.

Pastor Wang Yi, whose Early Rain Covenant Church was the target of a government crackdown last year, was also found guilty of “illegal business operation” by a court in Chengdu, southwest China, according to an announcement on an official court website.

Wang was detained in December 2018 in a raid by authorities in which dozens of members of his “underground church” disappeared.

China’s officially atheist government is wary of any organised movements outside its own control, including religious ones.

Japan Executes First Foreigner In Years

Japan on Thursday executed a 40-year-old Chinese man convicted of murdering a family of four, in the country’s first execution of a foreigner since the disclosure of details on sentences carried out began in 2007, the justice ministry said.

The man, Wei Wei, had committed the murders in mid-2003 with two accomplices who were also Chinese nationals, media reported.

The other two fled to China and were arrested there.

One was executed in China in 2005 and the other received a life sentence, media said.

Buhari Detained Dasuki For 4 Years But Retained CBN Gov’

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has criticised the Buhari government for the release of ec-National Security Adviser, Sambo Dauki on bail, saying the action should not be a call for celebration but that of reflection and circumspection.

He said Buhari detained Dasuki for four years but retained CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who released money.

Lamido, on Wednesday in his official Facebook page, joined millions of Nigerians in critically analysing Dasuki’s release after years of detention.

JAMB Official Jailed 8 Years For ₦12.5M E-Card Theft

Delta State High Court, Asaba has sentenced a JAMB official, James Orji Ihejirika to eight years imprisonment for stealing the Board’s E-facility cards and change of course cards worth ₦12.5 million.

Ihejirka was an accountant working at the Asaba JAMB office. He received consignments  containing  E-facility cards and change of course cards worth N12.5 million from JAMB headquarters but instead of handing over to his state coordinator, he sold them and converted the money to his personal use.

He was charged under section 19 of the Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Act 2000, and section 386 of Criminal Code …
