National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the United Nations Office on  Drugs and Crime (UNODC) yesterday, said that an  estimated 117 million bribes are paid in Nigeria on a yearly basis.

Healthcare professionals, namely doctors, nurses and midwifes, and public utility officials are the two types of public officials with whom the largest share (31 per cent each) of Nigerians had at least one contact in the 12 months prior to the 2019 survey. 38,000 People Die Of Tobacco, Alcohol In Sri Lanka Yearly

About 38,000 people have been reported dead from the excessive use of alcohol and tobacco in Sri Lanka yearly, local media reports, quoting medical experts from the Sri Lanka Medical Association.

According to statistics from the Sri Lanka Medical Association on Tuesday, an estimated 18,000 people died from the use of tobacco and an estimated 20,000 from the use of alcohol in the island country.

Head of the Sri Lanka Medical Association, Anula Wijesundara, told the local Daily News that a person addicted to alcohol consumed at least an average of 3.5 litres of alcohol on a daily basis.

The House of Reps have resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee to ascertain the quantity of oil stolen on a daily basis and the people responsible for the theft within the country. 

The Reps decision followed the adoption of a motion on oil theft in Nigeria moved by Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji who represents Aguata federal constituency, Anambra State.

Hon. Umeoji had stressed that Nigeria loses about ₦5 trillion yearly from oil theft, an amount which the government desperately needs to finance the budget.
