NYSC@50: How Nigerian Youths Unashamedly Celebrated Failure

One of the most painful reasons why Nigeria has remained the way it is that Nigerians tolerate their problems a lot. Rather than raise objective issues with the system which has failed them, they often try to create excuses for failures while basking in their pain and suffering while fuelling its sources. To put it mildly, Nigerians love ‘suffering and smiling’.

Over the last few days, Nigerians showed up on social media to show the world why their governments and leaders do not take them seriously. They were all over the Internet heaping praises and adulation on the National Youth …

Is Nigeria Not Tired Of Wasting Money On NYSC

Is Nigeria Not Tired Of Wasting Money On The Futile NYSC?

Acknowledging failures and making necessary amends is something that everyone who is desirous of making an impact cannot do without, in the case of Nigeria, the story seems different because engagements over the years have clearly shown that rather than correct mistakes, the country reinforces and encourages them. How else can one explain why the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme which failed many decades ago is still sucking up the resources in a country that needs every dint of austerity measures to plug all the financial gaps it has? How else can one explain that very valid calls for

It Is Time To Scrap The Crap Called NYSC

It Is Time To Scrap The Crap Called NYSC

If there is anything Nigerians must learn, it is to acknowledge their failures especially when the signs become too obvious. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which has failed to live up to the expectations of the founders has become an abysmal failure in recent years and this is something Nigerians must understand.

Founded in 1973 through a decree by Nigeria’s former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, the initial objective of the NYSC scheme was to rebuild, reconstruct and reconcile a country battered by the civil war or more appropriately the Nigerian genocidal attacks on Biafrans. The idea was to …

Violation Of The Geneva Conventions: Gowon Still Unpunished

Nigeria’s post-colonial history is very dark, there is no doubt about that. Perhaps, her very ugly past is the reason why she seems not to be making any progress or developmental stride despite her enormous wealth and natural endowments. Nigeria has refused to discuss the Nigerian genocidal attacks on Biafrans, in fact, they are considered a taboo, but then again, it is not unexpected that it is that way, there has to be very active official cover-ups and denials; and yes! the man who coordinated the atrocities therein, General Yakubu Gowon is not only a free man today but is

Ohanaeze Denies Appointing Gowon For Presidency Campaign

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has denied appointing former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, to lead the campaign for an Igbo president in 2023.

This was contained in a statement signed by the group’s spokesman, Uche Achi-Okpaga, on Wednesday.

Achi-Okpaga made it clear that Ohanaeze never contemplated involving either Gowon or any prominent politician.

He said the “purported pact” with Gowon emanated from a group known as Ohanaeze Youth Council and “exists only in the imagination of the miscreants and enemies of the Igbo nation”.

The statement read: “Ohanaez Ndigbo reiterates

SMBLF To Nigerians – Listen To Obasanjo On Restructuring

Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF, has enjoined Nigerians to heed the warnings of former leaders, General Yakubu Gowon and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on the restructuring of the country to avoid a war situation following the challenges facing the country.

SMBLF observed that it is only those who do not wish the county well that would ignore such statesmanly call.

SMBLF in a joint statement on Sunday by Yinka Odumakin, Gen. C. R. U. Ikekire, Senator Bassey Henshaw and Dr Isuwa Dogo for South West, South East, South-South and Middle Belt respectively, said, “The warnings to Nigerians from the
