The Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions has demanded from the Federal Government the payment of 12 months arrears of 53.37 per cent salary increase estimated at ₦8.32bn.

SSAUTHRIAI made the demand in a communiqué signed by its sectoral chairman, Felix Uwadiae, and Secretary, Ademola Olajire, issued after its council meeting held at the Nigerian Institute of Trypanosomiasis Research in Kaduna in Abuja.

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday said it has sacked over 600 members of staff over alleged irregular employment, overage and sundry other allegations.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said the decision of the university council followed adoption on Thursday of the audit report carried out by a group of external auditors.

Olanipekun, who addressed journalists on resolution of the council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, said the sacking would save about N200m for the university monthly.

Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he does not owe anybody apology for citing the Federal University of Transportation in Daura.

Amaechi spoke on Monday in Daura, Katsina State, as President Muhammadu Buhari performed the groundbreaking for the university.

Suspected Cult War Claims 13 Kogi Varsity Students

No fewer than 13 students of the Kogi State University, Ayingba, have been killed by unidentified persons suspected to be members of a secret cult.

The killings according to eyewitnesses, started on Friday last week when nine students, including a 200-level female student and her boyfriend, were hacked down on the campus and at different points.

The Akwa Ibom State University yesterday said it had terminated the appointments of eight lecturers for alleged involvement in sexual harassment and extortion.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Eno Ibanga, said this while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the 4th and 5th combined convocation at the institution’s main campus in the Mkpat Enin Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
