The Federal Government at the weekend urged states to make land available for the controversial RUGA settlement, even as it said N2.258 billion was allocated for the initiative in the 2019 budget.

104-year-old World War II veteran urges FGN to pay pension

A 104-year-old World War ll Veteran of the Nigerian Army,  Adamo Aduku on Saturday urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay his pension.
Aduku was one of those conferred with the Chief of Army Staff World War II Veteran Award at the 2019 Army Day Celebration in Lagos.
While speaking to journalists at the event, he lamented that since he was discharged as a Private from the Nigerian Army in 1957 he was yet to receive his pension.

Suicide: Cleric urges Nigerians to study, obey word of God

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Ferdinand, has advised Nigerians to always study and obey the word of God in order to have innermost peace to prevent them from opting for suicide in difficult moments.

Ferdinand, the Associate Priest at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nyanya, Abuja,  gave the advice at Mass on Sunday.

He said that suicide should never be an option to any problem.

“When we properly study and obey the word of God which gives us  innermost peace, we will never think of committing suicide.

Floods: Lagos urges calm as heavy rains pound city

Flooded streets, grinding traffic jam, homes with roofs blown off, uprooted trees and stuck vehicles.

Lagosians were struggling all yesterday to cope with the aftermath of an early morning downpour that drenched the city and its outskirts.

The storm that accompanied the downpour pulled down telecommunication masts, electricity poles and trees, some of which fell across major roads to further compound the traffic jam.

The state government urged residents to remain calm.

Pope urges Bulgarians to ‘open hearts’ to migrants

Pope Francis urged Bulgarians to open their hearts and doors to refugees as he began a visit to the European Union’s poorest country.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov met Francis at the airport, with the government welcoming how the visit has put the former communist country, which joined the EU in 2007, and the Balkans in the international spotlight.

The three-day tour, which also takes in North Macedonia, includes a visit to a refugee camp on the outskirts of Sofia and a commemoration of Mother Teresa, the most famous native of the Macedonian capital Skopje.

Russia urges Nigerians to apply for educational scholarship

The Embassy of Russia in Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to explore opportunity through application for the ongoing Russian Government Scholarship programme, to improve themselves educationally.

Mr Ivan Lydkin, Press Attache of the Embassy, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing executive members of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS).

He described the scholarship programme as Russia’s way to strengthen its bilateral relations with Nigeria, under its reunification intiative.

Falana urges International Community to sanction El-Rufai

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Femi Falana, has disclosed that the actions of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, has confirmed that the general election will be a ‘do-or -die affair.’

Responding to the governor’s “body bag” threat, Falana said the prosecution of the governor will commence as soon as his tenure is over.
