FG Urged To Eliminate VAT On Capital Market Investments

The federal government has been urged to eliminate value added tax on commission and fees paid by investors to stockbrokers while investing in the capital market.

Partner, Financial Service Group, Deloitte Tax Function, Mr. Taiwo Okunade, who made the call at the Sixth Triennial Delegates Conference organised by the Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria (ISAN) in Lagos, yesterday, said that government must ensure elimination of multiple tax audits currently discouraging investment.

According to him, government must come up with a mechanism for collaboration between the federal government and the state government to reduce multiple tax audits on tax payers.

Border Closure: FG Urged To Replicate Action On Sea Borders

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kam Industries, Kamorudeen Yusuf, has urged the Federal Government to replicate the closure of Nigeria’s land borders by securing the country’s sea borders.

Yusuf called the attention of government to the steel sector, saying that Nigeria’s seaports are still porous, with the Nigerian market flooded with substandard steel products.

Iraq Gov’t Urged To Call In Forces To End ‘Bloodbath’

The death toll during demonstrations in Iraq surged to more than 300 as security forces were accused of “relentlessly” targeting protesters.

Six more people were killed in the capital Baghdad on Sunday and dozens of others hurt in clashes.

The head of the Iraqi parliament’s human rights commission told Al Jazeera that 319 people have died since October 1 with more than 15,000 wounded. Most of the casualties were anti-government protesters, but security officers also died in the violence.

Iraqi security forces in Baghdad fired tear gas at demonstrators and erected concrete barriers in a bid to block their movement.
