Strike Extension: We Must Save Public Universities — ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has said its declaration of indefinite strike after over six months of warning and rollover strikes, was meant to save public universities.

The union, in a statement, late Monday night, by its president, Emmanuel Osodeke, said it was compelled to carry out the action because it has ‘experienced a lot of deceit of the highest level in the last five and half years’ from the federal government.

Universities: SSANU, NASU Suspend Strike For 60 Days

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions (NASU), have announced the suspension of the Unions’ ongoing strike for a period of two months to enable the federal government the opportunity to implement some their agreements.

The suspension is coming after the committee met with the Education Minister earlier this week.

FG Unconcerned About Public Universities, ASUU Laments

Less than two days to the expiration of the warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the National President of the union, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has accused the Federal Government of not caring enough for public varsities insisting that ‘nothing tangible has been done’.

NUC approves establishment of 3 more universities in Imo

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of additional three universities in Imo.
The universities are the University of Science and Technology, Omuna Isiako, University of Creative Technology, Umuna and the University of Medical Sciences, Ogboko.

With the additional three universities, Imo now has five universities, the only state with the highest number of universities in the country.

Dangote has donated a lot to Nigerian universities – FG

The federal government has revealed that the N1.2billion hostel donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria is the single largest donation by an individual in the history of universities in Nigeria.

Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the inauguration of the Aliko Dangote Hall, extended the federal government’s appreciation to the president of the Dangote group.
