US Intelligence Warned Nigeria Against Electing Buhari

Nigeria may soon be on a collision course with the United States over Boko Haram, security and terrorism matters.

The prediction over a probable US-Nigeria face-off followed the latest appointment by U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Thursday February 20, Trump appointed Richard Grenell, current Ambassador to Germany, as the acting Director of National Intelligence.

Interestingly, ahead of the 2015 general elections, Grenell wrote an article titled “Nigeria On The Brink”.

Grenell, in the analysis published on Washington Times, warned Nigerians against electing General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as President.

Trump Threatens Intelligence Block Over Huawei

The United States’ ambassador to Germany said Sunday that President Donald Trump had threatened to cut off intelligence-sharing with countries that dealt with Chinese tech firm Huawei.

Washington has been pressing allies to ban Huawei, one of the world’s largest tech firms, from next-generation 5G mobile data networks, saying it is a security risk.

Ambassador Richard Grenell said Trump “instructed me to make clear that any nation who chooses to use an untrustworthy 5G vendor will jeopardize our ability to share intelligence and information at the highest level.”

As Nigerians grapple with the reality of the visa ban slammed on the country and five others, the United States has donated an additional $40 million to assist humanitarian efforts in the northeast.
