Trump Sues New York Times For “Defamatory Statements”

The 2020 campaign team of the United States President Donald Trump has filed a libel lawsuit against ‘The New York Times’ alleging that the newspaper “knowingly published false and defamatory statements” connecting Trump to Russia.

According to the suit, the newspaper cited Trump in a March 2019 opinion piece about Russia, taking his war with the media to different heights.

A lawyer for Julian Assange on Monday claimed the United States’ bid to extradite him is part of President Donald Trump’s “war on leakers and journalists”, as the WikiLeaks founder’s full extradition hearing opened in Britain.

Assange faces charges under the US Espionage Act for the 2010 release by his anti-secrecy website of a trove of files detailing the realities of US military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The United States’ ambassador to Germany said Sunday that President Donald Trump had threatened to cut off intelligence-sharing with countries that dealt with Chinese tech firm Huawei.

Washington has been pressing allies to ban Huawei, one of the world’s largest tech firms, from next-generation 5G mobile data networks, saying it is a security risk.
