UAE Halts New Tourist, Work Visas For Nine Specified Nations

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has temporarily suspended new applications for tourist and work visas from citizens of nine countries, in a move officials say is tied to national security, public health, and migration control policies.

The suspension, which took effect immediately, impacted nationals from Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Sudan, and Uganda. Those who already hold valid visas are not affected and may continue to travel to, live, and work in the country as normal.

Seven Reported Dead In UAE Flooding After Unseasonable Rains

It has been reported that at least seven people have been killed in the United Arab Emirates after a barrage of unseasonable downpours had triggered flash flooding in eastern districts of the normally parched Gulf state, authorities said.

“We regret to announce that six people of Asian nationalities have been found dead as a result of the floods,” the interior ministry’s chief of central operations, Ali al-Tunaiji, said.

Israel Breaks Record As It Pioneers First UAE Free Trade Deal

In a historical landmark deal, Israel has signed a free trade deal with the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, which would make it one of the first deals with an Arab country.

Israel’s ambassador to the oil-rich UAE, Amir Hayek, tweeted “mabruk” — congratulations in Arabic — with a photo of Emirati and Israeli officials holding documents at a signing ceremony in Dubai.

The Emirati envoy to Israel, Mohamed Al Khaja, hailed as an “unprecedented achievement” the deal that, according to the Israeli side, scraps customs duties on 96 percent of all products traded.

UAE Doubles Stimulus To Counter Coronavirus Impact

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates said Sunday it has doubled to $70 billion a stimulus package to support the Gulf state’s economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“The aggregate value of all capital and liquidity measures adopted by the CBUAE since 14 March 2020 has reached 256 billion dirhams ($70 billion),” the central bank said in a statement.

Last month, oil-rich UAE announced stimulus worth $35 billion that included aid to the banking system, facilities for loans and injecting funds into the bourses.

Coronavirus: UAE, Saudi Arabia Take Drastic Steps

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia have ramped up measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

While the Saudis slammed a 21-day curfew, the UAE suspended all flights.

The UAE said on Monday that all passenger flights to the country would be suspended for two weeks. The decision will take effect within 48 hours.

According to the official WAM news agency, cargo and emergency evacuation flights are exempted.

The UAE’s Health and Emergency authorities said that commercial centres and shopping malls, along with fish, meat and vegetables markets would be closed within 48 hours for two weeks.
