Ondo Resident Doctors Commence Indefinite Strike Amid COVID-19

Resident doctors of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, UNIMEDTH, Ondo State on Tuesday commenced an indefinite strike.

The industrial action is coming amid the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

According to the doctors, during a press conference held in Akure, the state capital, the action became imperative following the non-payment of their salaries ranging from three to six months by the state government.

Recall that on May 8, 2020, theΒ doctors had protestedΒ the non-payment of their salaries with a threat to embark on strike.

Patients Chase Health Workers Out Of UNIMEDTH Over NHIS

Mild drama ensued on Thursday at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, UNIMEDTH, Akure, Ondo State, when some enrollees of National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, stormed the hospital over poor services.

The enrollees, who paralysed activities at the clinic, protested against the management of the hospital for their continuous deafening silence on their predicament.

The angry protesters, who chased the medical personnel, as well as other members of staff out of the clinic, were led by a Director of the Federal Scholarship Board, Mr. Michael Ogunwale, who explained that for almost one year, the NHIS clinic at the UNIMEDTH
