The recent actions of Governor Nyesom Wike against traditional stools in Rivers State have received mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Governor Wike was seen in a viral video criticising traditional rulers and threatening to depose them over very flimsy reasons. He also called one of the monarchs a ‘trouble maker’.

His accusations have generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

While others hailed him for having the courage to caution the traditional rulers’ others chided him, describing his action as disrespectful.

Ikpeazu Dissolves Abia Traditional Rulers Council

Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State Governor, has approved the dissolution of the leadership of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers with immediate effect.

This was contained in a terse statement issued by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu and made available to IgbereTV on Thursday morning.

The Governor also approved a four-man Committee made up of eminent Traditional Rulers to work out the modalities for the selection of a new leadership.

Onitsha Traditional Council Condemns Child Abduction

The Onitsha Traditional Council has expressed displeasure over recent abduction of some children in Kano State and ferried to Onitsha, Anambra State 

The council headed by Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, in a statement noted that it was purely a criminal matter committed by individuals for commercial benefits and had no religious, ethnic connotation.

Traditional rulers need FG funding to curb crimes – Oluwo

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has explained how the Federal Government could utilize the traditional institution to curb spate of kidnapping and other crimes in the country.

Speaking with reporters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the Oluwo advocated for empowerment of traditional rulers to re-establish communal structure in combating high ranking crimes.

The first class traditional ruler, who regretted the height of insecurity across the nation, said far reaching and creative measures must be applied urgently to “forestall impending doom hanging dangerously on the nation.”
