Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Thabane Resigns

Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Thomas Thabane has announced he will step down following months of pressure after he was named as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife.

He did not say when he would leave office but his party said a new premier would be sworn in on Tuesday.

The 80-year-old’s current wife, with whom he was living at the time of the murder, was charged in connection with the killing in February.

Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane left the country Friday, skipping a court appearance on at which he was expected to be charged with murdering his former wife.

Thabane, 80, had been due in court at 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) over the death of Lipolelo Thabane, who was shot dead in June 2017 two days before he took office for a second stint as prime minister.
