I was planning a trip to India. I had even began to discuss with a doctor over there. But l developed cold feet after someone told me a story when l travelled home for Xmas. His eleven years old nephew needed surgery.

NIPCO sues staff for ₦17.7m fuel theft

A logistics officer of Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) Plc, Mairiga Umar, who allegedly stole four trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at N17.7million, was Wednesday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court I. Lagos.

Umar, 48, was arraigned by the police on a one-count charge of theft before Mrs Oluwatoyin Oghere.

Prosecuting Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye alleged that Umar committed the offence in September 2018, at NIPCO office, Apapa, Lagos.

The court heard that the defendant allegedly stole four trucks laden with 132,000 litres of PMS valued at N17.7 million from the company while he was in its employment.…

Cook jailed 14 years for killing brother over meat theft

For pleading guilty to beating her eight-year-old brother to death over theft of meat from a pot of soup, Justice Adedayo Akintoye of a Lagos High Court, Igbosere yesterday sentenced a cook, James Janet, to 14 years imprisonment.Janet beat her brother, Saviour Effiong James, to death for stealing meat at their residence in Ilupeju area at about 8:00p.m. on August 10, 2009.

Cable, transformer theft to attract 10-year jail term

If the Senate adopts the recommendations of its Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, the theft of electricity cable and transformer may attract 10-year jail term.

The committee also recommended a jail term of seven years or a fine of N2million or both if anyone connects or disconnects electric wire to, either the electricity meter or to the public power supply lines.

The 10-year jail term is without an option of fine for offenders.

The committee, which submitted its report last Thursday, recommended a jail term of 10 years, without an option of fine, if someone is found guilty …
