US Cancels Reciprocity Fees For Nigerian Visa Applicants

The United States has removed the reciprocity fee imposed on visa applications from Nigeria. In a statement on Friday, the ministry of foreign affairs said the reciprocity fee will no longer be effected from December 3, 2020.

‘The ministry of foreign affairs wishes to inform that the United States government has removed all visa reciprocity fees for Nigerian citizens seeking visas to the United States,’ the statement signed by Ferdinand Nwonye, spokesman of the ministry read.’

US Announces $2.4bn Sale Of Coastal Defense Systems To Taiwan

The United States on Monday said it had approved a $2.4 billion sale of 100 Harpoon coastal defense systems to Taiwan, defying Beijing’s anger over a $1 billion missile deal last week.

The announcement came just hours after Beijing said it would sanction US firms involved in an earlier arms sales to the democratic self-ruled island.

The proposed sale of the Harpoon systems “will help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance… and progress in the region,” the State Department said in a statement.

US Announces ‘UN’ Sanctions On Iran, Venezuela’s Maduro

The United States said Monday it was imposing sanctions on Iran’s defense ministry and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro under a UN authority which is widely contested.

“For nearly two years corrupt officials in Tehran have worked with the illegitimate regime in Venezuela to flout the UN arms embargo,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters.

“Our actions today are a warning that should be heard worldwide.”

Pompeo said that President Donald Trump has issued an executive order “that is a new and powerful tool to enforce the UN arms embargo.”
