ASUU: Transport, Power Sector May Shut Down As NLC Protests

Coming on the heels of the prolonged industrial action which had been embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and some other unions will begin a nationwide solidarity protest today as has been previously announced.

Africa Daily News, New York has also recalled that some of the university lecturers had on February 14, 2022, shut down most of the public universities in Nigeria over the inability of the Federal Government  of Nigeria to fully  implement some of the agreements the two parties entered into in previous years.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for peace, stability, security and good governance as workers mark the International Workers Day on May 1.

The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba  told newsmen on Saturday in Abuja, that peace, stability, security and good governance were the constitutional responsibility of the government.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday called on government at all levels to include workers in its bailout funds, to help them establish businesses that will supplement their meagre monthly take home.

The Union also decried the economic crisis being faced by workers in Plateau State, ranging from the non-implementation of the new minimum wage, non-payment of COVID-19 allowances to frontline health workers in the 17 Local Government Councils, insufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), among other issues.

No Going Back On Strike Despite Court Ruling – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress, on Thursday, stated that strike and protest will commence on Monday despite the ruling of the National Industrial Court.

The leaders of the union made this known after they met with the Federal Government to ensure the reversal of hike in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.

NLC condemns Sack Of Pilots, Staff By Air Peace, Bristow Helicopters

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has strongly condemned and rejected the sack of 100 Pilots by Air Peace and 69 Pilots by Bristow Helicopters.

Africa Daily News, New York eported that the management of Air Peace had announced that it sacked some of its pilots and supporting staff across its fleet while slashing staff salaries by up to 40 percent due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

Barely 24 hours after the announcement, the management of Bristow Helicopters also announced the sack of over 100 pilots and engineers in its company.
