NDDC: Akpabio Appeals To Protesting Ijaw Youths For Peace

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to the protesting Ijaw youths to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

Recall that the Ijaw Youths Council had on Thursday staged a nationwide protest, shutting down all the NDDC offices in the country in demand for a constitution of substantive NDDC board members.

The Minister, according to a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Anietie Ekong and issued to our Correspondent in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, on Friday, immediately met with the angry youths and appealed for calm.

Mr Paul Ibe, the senior special adviser to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said that Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, lied when he denied saying that the National Assembly received 60 percent of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, contracts.

While answering questions at the ongoing probe of the NDDC by the House of Representatives committee, Akpabio had linked contracts awarded by the Commission to members of the National Assembly, saying that the majority of the contracts awarded were handled by the lawmakers.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has made a u-turn, saying that he never said lawmakers got 60 percent of the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who announced the receipt of Akpabio’s response, said the minister claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC which had not been paid for and some of which were part of the constituency projects of the lawmakers.

Gbajabiamila said Akpabio’s response would be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to look at the merits of the minister’s arguments.…

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has cleared the air on the allegations of missing ₦40billion.

Nunieh on Monday raised a fresh allegation against Godswill Akapbio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

Among other claims against the Minister, Nunieh alleged that Akpabio attempted to inflate the NDDC budget during her reign as Managing Director.

Nunieh disclosed that Akpabio ordered her to include some projects from the refugee commission in the budget of the NDDC.

The former NDDC boss alleged that N40 billion of NDDC funds was squandered under Akpabio’s watch.
