Again, Anambra Assembly Renews Tenure Of LG Council Chair

Anambra State House of Assembly has renewed tenured the tenure of 18 out of the 21 Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen in the state and their members for additional three months.

The renewal is coming for the umpteenth time since the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano took over the reins of power in 2014.

Despite agitations for the conduct of a local government election in the state, the state government has continued to run the affairs of the local government areas using transition committee chairmen who are appointed by the governor from his party; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the 2019 election, Senator Ayogu Eze has reaffirmed his total support for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration.

THISDAY reports that Eze spoke in his country home, Umuida, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the State during the inauguration of a water project.

The project was done with the N5m grant received by the community from the Enugu State Government. Senator Eze, who represented Enugu North Senatorial Zone, provided the generator for its use.

PDP Lawmakers Reject Tenure Extension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the Plateau State House of Assembly have rejected the tenure extension for caretaker chairmen of four local government areas of the state.

Mr Sohchang Zimgtim, member representing Langtang South in the Assembly, spoke on behalf of his colleagues in a news conference in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had earlier conducted elections in 13 out of the 17 local government areas of the state.

It has emerged that erstwhile Executive Chairman Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Mr. Babatunde Fowler, wrote the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha to facilitate the renewal of his four year appointment-on the day of its expiration- and before President Muhammadu Buhari named Mr. Muhammad Nami as the new chairman of the FIRS.
