600 Palestinians Held By Israel Without Charge – Rights Group

An Israeli rights group have alleged that Israel is holding no fewer than 600 Palestinian detainees without charge or trial, which is the highest number since 2016.

HaMoked which is an Israeli based rights group that regularly gathers figures from prison authorities, on Monday disclosed that as of May there were 604 detainees held in administrative detention. Nearly all are Palestinians, as administrative detention is very rarely used against Jews.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  have asserted that the ward congresses conducted by the ‘incapacitated’ All Progressives Congress amounts to a nullity, given the judgment of the Supreme Court on the Ondo State governorship election, which invalidates the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the ruling party.

The PDP made this assertion in a statement titled ‘APC Ward Congress A Nullity – PDP…Blames Buni, Others Over Fracas, Death’ which was issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Sunday.

Douye Diri has been affirmed as the duly elected Governor of Bayelsa State, by a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The apex court, in a unanimous judgement by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, dismissed the six appeals filed against Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Justice Ngwuta, in his judgement, predicated the dismissal of the appeals on the withdrawal of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellants.

Orji Kalu’s Kinsmen Hail Supreme Court’s Judgment

Dr. Orji Kalu’s kinsmen on Friday hailed the verdict of the Supreme Court, which nullified the conviction of the former governor of Abia, who was handed down a 12-year jail term for corruption.

Facebook on Wednesday announced the first members of its independent “supreme court” empowered to make binding decisions about what content should be allowed or removed at the social network and Instagram.

The oversight board is to make final decisions regarding the kinds of posts known to embroil Facebook in controversy about censorship, misinformation or free speech.
