With respect to our debt problem I am expecting the 2020 budget to address it. One of the ways to do that should be to organize a national debt emergency policy summit. This should involve all the public and private stakeholders from federal to states.
Having said that, let me remind us once again that Nigeria’s problem is not that its national debt is excessive. After all, among peer economies, we are the least borrowed especially in GDP ratio. In fact, from debt to GDP and especially external to domestic debt ratio we are an under-borrowed economy.
But Nigeria’s debt …
Some 5,000 Ukrainians rallied in Kiev on Sunday warning President Volodymyr Zelensky to resist pressure from Russia’s Vladimir Putin when the two men meet on Monday for talks on the conflict in Ukraine’s east.
Protesters held placards with slogans such as “No to capitulation”, “Stay away from Moscow” and “Russian gas is a noose around our necks” during the rally, led by Zelensky’s political opponents.
The two leaders are due to meet for the first time since Zelensky’s election in April at the talks in Paris, mediated by French and German leaders Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel.

Thousands of activists from around the world including teen activist Greta Thunberg hit the streets of Madrid on Friday to demand urgent action on the climate crisis from world leaders attending the COP25 summit in the Spanish capital.
Teen eco-warrior Thunberg — who refuses to fly because of the carbon emissions involved — joined the rally after making a nearly three-week journey across the Atlantic by catamaran.
“We would love some action by people in power because people are suffering and dying due to the climate and ecological emergency and we can’t wait any longer,” the 16-year-old Swede told a …
The leaders of the world’s most powerful military alliance clashed over personality and policy on Wednesday as NATO’s summit ended with an effort to paper over their sharp divisions.
Meeting outside London to mark the 70th year of the Atlantic alliance, the members vowed to stick together against threats from Russia and terrorism and recognised the challenge of a rising China.
But the bad blood continued to the end of the two-day get together, with US President Donald Trump branding Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “two-faced” after a group of allied leaders were caught on video at a Buckingham Palace …

President Muhammadu Buhari and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in Sochi, have agreed to put Nigeria-Russia relations on a fast track, and pursue the completion of partially completed and abandoned projects initiated by both countries.
This is even as President Buhari has requested for the return of Russia, on a government-to-government relationship for the completion and commissioning of the abandoned Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill, to which President Putin accepted.
According to a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the agreements were reached at a bilateral meeting held on sidelines of ongoing …
Britain and the European Union reached a last-ditch Brexit deal on Thursday, just hours before an EU summit that is expected to give it a seal of approval.
But Prime Minister Boris Johnson will still have to take the accord to a skeptical British parliament for its backing on Saturday, and it is far from certain that it will pass.
Johnson, who has pledged to take Britain out of the EU with or without an agreement, tweeted: “We’ve got a great new deal that takes back control – now Parliament should get Brexit done on Saturday.”
EU officials are pleased …
Larry Kudlow, President Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, said Sunday there is a “strong possibility” Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 economic summit in Japan next month and said he expects China to retaliate against the US for its increase last week in tariffs on Chinese goods as Beijing has indicated it would.
As President Trump lands in Vietnam this morning for his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, things will be getting interesting back in Washington. Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-fixer, starts three days of testimony on Capitol Hill.
