The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) yesterday issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government to either address its demands or face indefinite industrial action.

Rising from the 96th National Executive Council Meeting of the union held at the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, the union said the notice became imperative following government refusal to respond to several correspondences on the issues in disagreement.

Nigerian Man Died Of Immigration Hunger Strike – Japan

Japanese immigration authorities said Tuesday a Nigerian man who died in detention in June starved to death while on hunger strike, in the first officially acknowledged case of its kind.

β€œAn autopsy has found the man died of starvation,” an official at the Immigration Services Agency told AFP.

The man in his forties, whose name has been withheld, died on June 24 after falling unconscious at Omura Immigration Center and being taken to a hospital in southern Japan.
