Senior oil workers attached to agencies under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum yesterday embarked on a three-day warning strike over the failure of the federal government to pay their salaries in the last three months.

The workers under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), in their protest, said they were stopping work following the authorities’ insistence on compelling them to join the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

NMA Suspends Warning Strike

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has suspended the warning strike it embarked on over an attack on its female member.

Dr Bulus Peter, Chairman of NMA in the state, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Lafia.

Peter said the strike, which lasted for three days, followed the attack on the doctor, whose name was not provided, by a patient relative at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia.

French Govt Offer Compromise In Bid To End Transport Strike

France’s government Saturday proposed a compromise to end a crippling transport strike against pension reform, with an offer to withdraw a key proposal on raising the retirement age, but trade unions gave the announcement a mixed welcome.

Residents doctors at University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospitals, Akure in Ondo State, on Friday, embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

The angry doctors gathered at the hospital complex, displaying placards with various inscriptions showing their grievances.

Workers of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), will on Monday, January 12 commence total shut down of the health institution by declaring a strike action, if the management failed to reverse the “illegal” sack of its members.

The organised Labour in Kwara State has threatened to embark on industrial action if the state government fails to implement the ₦30,000 new minimum wage.

The labour union comprising of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, issued the threat during an emergency meeting held at the Labour House in Ilorin, the state capital, yesterday.

Tensions between the French government and unions opposed to pension reforms mounted on the 11th day of a crippling transport strike Sunday, with the prime minister warning the French would not tolerate being stranded at Christmas.

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has suspended its strike action embarked upon on Wednesday to draw federal government’s attention to the plight of its members.
