UK Recovers $23 Million Fresh Abacha Loot

Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) on Thursday revealed that it has recovered more than $23 million stolen from Nigeria by the country’s late military dictator Sani Abacha, becoming the latest in a series of similar recoveries around the world.

Abacha ruled Africa’s most populous nation and top oil exporter from 1993 until his death in 1998, a period during which he stole up to $5 billion of public money, according to Transparency International. He was never charged.

Kogi West Senate Rerun: APC Vows To Reclaim Stolen Mandate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence that when the supplementary election in the inconclusive Kogi West Senatorial district is held, its candidate, Senator Smart Adeyemi, will reclaim what the party calls his “stolen mandate” from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

SA: Bosasa Lays 171 Charges Against Agrizzi For Stolen R37m

Facilities management company Bosasa laid criminal charges on Wednesday against, among others, their former chief operating officer, Angelo Agrizzi, and former chief financial officer, Andries van Tonder, both of whom testified against the company earlier this year at the state capture commission.

The charges were laid in person at the Krugersdorp police station by the late Gavin Watson’s nephew Jared Watson, who is representing his uncle as the executor of his estate and, as a chartered accountant, was assisting Gavin with his submission to an SA Reserve Service inquiry into his finances and those of several others at Bosasa.

CBN denies trending ‘stolen, missing money’ story

There is no  money  missing or stolen from the  Central Bank of Nigeria’s  coffers as reported in some section of the media, the  bank’s spokesman Isaac Okoroafor said.

Okoroafor, the Director Corporate Communications,  made the refutal in a statement on Sunday while reacting to a recent article and audio clips in which the CBN Governor and other senior officials were heard  discussing discrepancies in the bank’s accounts.

Going by the record of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), e-fraudsters have fleeced customers of self-initiated banking solutions, such as Mobile Apps and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) of about N2.08 billion in the last one year.

CBN Director, Payment System Management, Sam Okojere, who broke the news at the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) general meeting in Lagos, said that customers of banks, Other Financial Institutions (OFIs), digital wallets and remittance players are prime targets for cyber criminals seeking quick monetisation of stolen credentials.

₦1.3trn stolen in four years by 32 entities – EFCC

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Monday said public funds stolen by 32 entities (human and corporate) between 2011 and 2015 was well over N1.3 trillion.
