The All Progressives Congress (APC) youths in Ogun State have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to reserve 40 percent of his cabinet for them.

Ekiti State Assembly Passes Vote-Of-Confidence In Kayode

In a unanimous resolution, Ekiti House of Assembly, yesterday passed a vote-of-confidence in Governor Kayode Fayemi for his achievements in his 365 days in office.

The commendation came following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Gboyega Aribisogan during plenary in Ado-Ekiti.

The motion was seconded by Mr Lateef Akanle representing Ekiti East (Constituency 2). Others who spoke in favour of the motion before it was unanimously passed were Mr Yemisi Ayokunle (Ekiti South West 1) and Mr Tunde Idowu (Ikere Constituency 2).

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has called for financial autonomy for State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) for timely conduct of credible council elections across the country.Yakubu made the call yesterday during a parley with members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria (FOSIECON) at INEC headquarters, Abuja.

The 1999 Constitution empowers SIECs to conduct council elections while INEC conducts elections into federal, state legislative and governorship seats.

Political watchers have described elections conducted by SIECs into the councils in most states as mere appointments and not democratic

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed November 30 for the Katsina State House of Assembly by-election for Sabuwa constituency seat.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state Jibrin Ibrahim Zarewa said this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on activities slated for the period before the poll.

The seat became vacant following the death of the then lawmaker, Hon Mustafa Abdullahi. Abdullahi, 60, lost his life in a ghastly accident along Funtua-Zaria road on July 5.

The Ogun government on Saturday sealed off two dilapidated buildings in Abeokuta and ordered occupants of the houses to move out within 24 hours.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Mr. Nafiu Adebiyi, told newsmen during an inspection tour that 526 other houses built on waterways, canal and erosion channels had been marked for demolition across the state.

Adebiyi said at the scene that the order became necessary to prevent loss of lives and other possible disasters that could arise from the partially collapsed buildings.
