NIPOST, Not FIRS Has Responsibility To Collect Stamp Duty

Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mallam Ali Pantami, yesterday, insisted that it is the duty of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to collect Stamp Duty for the Federal government instead of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), saying it is selfish and an injustice trying to deny NIPOST of collecting the duty

He argued that Stamp Duty should be collected by NIPOST the way Customs Duty is collected by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

Pantami, who stated this in Abuja, regretted that the FIRS has been working to be the agency collecting the duty, adding that he had presented …

Why Nigeria Does Not Need A Rubber Stamp Legislature

More than ever before, Nigerians need to start to pay attention to the survival of its democracy, if they truly desire that system of government. As harmless as it seems to be, the statement credited to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, concerning the 9th National Assembly’s preference for being a malleable institution should agitate the minds of Nigerians on the safety of their future in the hands of politicians who are misguided as to their very essence.

Lawan Is Just A ‘Rubber’ Waiting To Stamp Anything

Watching the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on television on Monday, affirming that the red chamber would approve the $29.96 billion loan request of President Muhammadu Buhari, left me so muddled. On this loan request, I was expecting him to talk about a thorough scrutiny of the request by the Senate. He did …

Adegbuyi said there is no conflict between NIPOST and the Federal Inland Revenue Service as well as the States Board of Internal Revenue over the remittances of stamp duties.

He further asserted that the position of NIPOST is that the production, printing and sales of stamp duties remain the sole responsibility of NIPOST even if it had moved …

Zainab Ahmed Insists FIRS Will Collect Stamp Duties, Others

The Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning. Zainab Ahmed, has said that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) would be in charge of sales and collection of stamp duties. This is coming despite the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) and NIPOST workers got the assuarance of the senate that they would carry out the mandate.

The Minister while addressing the press in Abuja said “by the passage of the Finance Bill it will be the Federal Inland Revenue Service that will be collecting the Stamp Duties.” S “It is a revenue for the …
