Botswana Begins Voting In Test Of A Stable Democracy

Voting opened on Wednesday in Botswana for a hotly contested general election that could test the country’s traditionally stable politics, as the ruling party faces its toughest challenge yet.

The historic Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) — whose rule has been unfettered since independence from Britain in 1966 — was shaken up earlier this year after former president Ian Khama dramatically renounced his hand-picked successor Mokgweetsi Masisi.

FG Earmarks $1.61 Billion For Stable Power Supply – TCN

Nigeria may soon wriggle out of incessant power outage as the federal government, in collaboration with some international donor agencies, has set aside over $1.61 billion to ensure steady power supply across the country.

Managing-Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Alhaji Usman Gur, said the project would be carried out under the Transmission Rehabilitation Expansion Programme. Gur said the project targeted 20, 000 megawatts by 2022.

Naira remains stable at ₦358 per dollar in parallel market

The Naira yesterday was stable at N358 per dollar in the parallel. However, the naira depreciated by 41kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window rose to N361.95 per dollar from N361.54 per dollar last week Friday translating to 41 kobo depreciation of the naira.

The depreciation was due to a 65 percent decline in volume of dollars traded which fell to $113.86 million from $328.4 million last week Friday.
