El-Rufai Reveals Amount Govt Spent On Power Without Result

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that the Federal Government has spent a whooping sum of ₦1.7trillion on power in the last three years without much progress.

El-Rufai made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the outcome of the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting presided over by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

He described the power situation in the country as a national emergency that requires all hands on deck to interrogate why the sector was not working to the benefit of Nigerians.

Report: ₦1.2tn Spent On IDPs By Govts, Donor Agencies

The International Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) said weekend that the federal government and the international community have so far expended ₦1.2 trillion on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North-east.

The Norwegian-based centre said the amount was spent on health, housing and livelihoods of displaced persons.

This is coming as Nigerian troops mounted sustained onslaught against terrorist groups, Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) and rescued an octogenarian, three children and women from insurgents.

How States Radically Spent ₦2.67tr In 2018, By BudgIT

States expended a whopping ₦4.319 trillion to fund their operations in the 2018 fiscal year, according to a survey by BudgIT, a fiscal governance organisation.

According to the survey released in Abuja yesterday, of the amount, recurrent spending gulped ₦2.67 trillion, while a paltry ₦1.648 trillion was devoted to capital projects.

Capital projects are supposed to touch the lives of the masses.

The survey also revealed that most of the states were grossly unable to realise their revenue targets, due to grossly inadequate Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR); hence their over-reliance on the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) takings.
