Thirty-five members of Lagos House of Assembly present at the Plenary of Monday, October 12, 2020, have passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for his exemplary leadership.

Reps To Confer Immunity On Senate President, Speaker

The bill to confer immunity on the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives has scaled second reading despite opposition.

The bill also seeks to confer immunity on presiding officers of the State House of Assembly to shield them from prosecution when they are occupying their offices

The bill sponsored by Segun Odebunmi was considered on Tuesday and passed through second reading despite opposition from members.

The Presiding officer, Femi Gbajabimila initially expressed reservation on presiding over the debate to prevent conflict of interest.

The Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives will send formal impeachment charges against President Donald Trump to the Senate next week.

Reuters reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this on Friday.

The Taraba State House of Assembly on Monday elected Mr Joseph Albasu Kunini and Alh Hamman Adama Abdulahi as the new Speaker and deputy Speaker of the House respectively, following Sunday night resignation of Mr Abel Peter Diah and Mr Charles Maijankai from the said positions respectively.

The House which convened on early Monday morning elected the previously impeached deputy speaker Alh Muhammad Gwampo as Speaker pro tempo who chaired the House for the election of the Speaker.

EFCC To Re-Arraign Former Lagos Speaker Ikuforiji

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday fixed Dec. 11, for re-arraignment of a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, charged with laundering ₦338.8 million.

Ikuforiji was charged alongside his former aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, on 54 counts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they were first arraigned on March 1, 2012, before Justice Okechukwu Okeke on a 20-count charge bordering on funds misappropriation and money laundering.

They, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

The defendants were subsequently re-arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Buba, following a re-assignment of the case.
