Nigerians Issued 12 Hours To Vacate South Africa

Nigerians and other foreign nationals resident in South Africa’s Keimoes and Upington areas of Northern Cape Province were on Thursday morning given 12 hours to vacate by the indigenes.

The President of Nigeria Union in South Africa, Mr Adetola Olubajo, made the disclosure in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

Olubajo said the development was as a result of an ugly incident that took place on Wednesday, Jan. 8, between a Police Officer and a Nigerian.

Why We Launched New Security Outfit In South West – Fayemi

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Thursday, said that the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) otherwise know as “Amotekun” was set up not to undermine the power of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Fayemi made this disclosure in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital during the official launching of the of new security outfit which is an initiative of all the six Governors in the South West region.

2023: Arewa Youths Shop For South-South Presidency

Coalition of northern youths under the umbrella of Arewa Youths Assembly have said that they will do all that is politically required to ensure an emergency of a South-South candidate for the 2023 presidency.
The youths said their decision to shop for a South-South candidate who should be in the age bracket of 40-50 years  was borne out of the fact that those northerners eyeing the seat are well above the age bracket, adding that the region had enjoyed the number national seat for too long.

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis gave a ringing endorsement of the changes in management in South African cricket after his side won the first Test against England by 107 runs at SuperSport Park on Sunday.

Somerset Agree Personal Terms With South Africa’s Philander

Somerset have agreed personal terms with South Africa’s Vernon Philander, the club announced Saturday after the Proteas paceman had already confirmed he would be playing for the English county.

Somerset, runners-up in last season’s first-class County Championship, will now look to complete the paperwork on a deal that would see the 34-year-old Philander heading to Taunton as a Kolpak player following South Africa’s home Test series with England.

Former Test wicketkeeper Mark Boucher was on Saturday named as South African team head coach until 2023.

An upbeat Boucher said South African cricket had been through “trying times” but added that he was confident that the national team could be successful against England.

Constituency Projects: South-West Gets Least Allocation

A report on the distribution of Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIPs) has shown that the South West has the lowest appropriation of funds amongst the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.

The report was prepared by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

It shows the zone by zone and state by state distribution of the N100 billion constituency projects sponsored by members of the National Assembly in their various constituencies in the 2019 budget.

South Africa Court Rejects Zuma Appeal To Prevent Trial

A South African court on Friday rejected an appeal by former President Jacob Zuma that sought to prevent his prosecution on corruption charges over a 2 billion dollars arms deal.

The ruling paves the way for Zuma’s long-awaited trial to start in Feb. 2020.

Zuma, in office from 2009 to 2018, had previously applied for a permanent stay of prosecution on 18 charges of fraud, racketeering and money laundering relating to an arms deal with French defense firm Thales in the 1990s.
