Hunger Will Kill More Than Coronavirus – Activist, Ikimi

Renowned human rights activist, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi has said there should be “palliatives” if there must be total shutdown of land borders, sea ports, markets, shops and others in Delta State as the Country battles with the Coronavirus which is currently plaguing the world.

The legal practitioner made the assertion in an interview with a news correspondent in Warri.

Ikimi, who is also the Executive Director of the Centre for the Vulnerable and Underprivileged, CENTREP said, “I don’t agree in totality with the shutdown. If there must be shutdown, there must be palliatives.

There was massive destruction of properties including stores, makeshift buildings and over 100 containers used by traders at Etim Edem Motor park in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Tanker Explosion Destroys Six Buildings, Shops In Onitsha

Not fewer than six buildings and shops were burnt on Wednesday at Upper Iweka, on Onitsha/Awka Road in Onitsha, after a 33,000 litre Diesel tanker fell and caught fire.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra Command, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.

He stated that the incident occurred at about 12:44 p.m.
