Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Shiites, who were commemorating the 6th Death Anniversary of sons of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and others, were dispersed by the Police in Zaria, Kaduna State, weekend.

Shi’ites Demand Immediate Release Of El-Zakzaky, Wife

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, has called for the immediate release of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and wife, Zeenat, from the Kaduna correctional facility.

In a statement issued by President, Media Forum of the IMN, Ibrahim Musa, on Saturday, he said, it became necessary to release El-Zakzaky and his wife due to the epidemic threatening the entire world.

The police yesterday dispersed a procession of the outlawed Islamic Movement of Nigeria members popularly called Shiites around Wuse Market in Abuja.

The policemen reportedly fired tear gas canisters and live rounds in the air, forcing the Shi’ites and passers-by to run for their lives. The IMN procession reportedly started on Sultan Abubakar Road but was quickly dispersed once the Police confronted them.

Police disperse protesting Shiites with teargas in Kaduna

There was panic, yesterday, when members of the Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky-led Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shi’ites, stormed the streets of Kaduna to protest the continued incarceration of their leader were dispersed by teargas fired into the air by the Police.

Several members of the group were injured during the protest.

El-Zakzaky and his wife, Hajiya Zeenat, among some other members of the group, are facing charges in a Kaduna State High Court and Magistrate Court, respectively, after being arrested in December 2015, following a clash with the military in Zaria.
