Shell Remits ₦720bn To NDDC In 16 Years – Igo Weli

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) and partners have remitted about two billion U.S. Dollars (about ₦720 billion) to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 16 years, an official said.

SPDC’s General Manager, External Relations, Igo Weli, disclosed this on Tuesday at the final of 2019 SPDC-JV Environment Awareness Quiz Competition for Land Hub Community Secondary Schools in and around Port Harcourt. Oil theft: Shell records loss of 11,000bpd

Oil theft from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) joint venture (JV) pipeline network averaged 11,000 barrels per day (bpd) last year, its General Manager, External Relations Mr. Igo Weli, said on Thursday.

He said this is an increase of about 20 per cent over previous year. The number of sabotage-related spills increased during the same period to 111 compared to 62 in 2017 and, since 2012, SPDC has removed more than 1,160 illegal theft points.

The oil giant has called for stakeholders’ efforts to curb the incessant vandalism, highlighting the danger of continuous sabotage to people and environment. He said …

‘Shell can’t pay compensation without damage assessment’

Leaders of Amazor Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have advised the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) against moves to pay compensation without carrying out a post-spill Impact Assessment of communities affected in May 2018 Trans Ramos Pipeline Oil Spill which devastated Amazor and its communities in the River Ramos Area.

The Chairman, Chiefs and Elders’ Council of Amazor Community, Chief (Dr.) Gari Suwa, in a statement yesterday, said the council was aware of plans by the company to discuss compensation with some handpicked members of the community.

FGN’s $406.7m debt recovery suit against Shell adjourned

A Federal High Court Lagos on Thursday, adjourned until June 19, hearing in a debt recovery suit filed by the Federal Government, against Shell Western Supply & Trading Ltd, over alleged 406.7 million dollars shortfall in Crude Oil shipment.

The suit numbered FHC/L/CS/336/16, was filed by FG’s counsel, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN.

It has as defendants, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd and its subsidiary, Shell Western Supply & Trading Ltd.

The money was said to be for crude oil lifted in 2013 and 2014.

The suit is pending before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.

Shell pays Fed Govt, agencies $6.397b

Over $6.397 billion was paid to the Federal Government and its agencies in 2018 by Shell exploration and production companies in Nigeria, The Nation has learnt.

In the group are Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo).

The payment represents a 48 per cent increase over payments ($4.322 billion) by the companies.

Esther Kiobel is testifying in court in The Hague, demanding compensation from the Netherlands-based firm.

Climate activists are threatening to sue Royal Dutch Shell to try to force it out of the oil business. A bloc of environmental groups in the Netherlands, where the company is based, says it wants to get a court ruling that would compel Shell to move away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy.

The groups say Shell is “deliberately obstructing” efforts to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, the key goal of the Paris agreement.
