‘Withdraw APC Members From INEC’ – SERAP To President Buhari

In lieu of the upcoming 2023 general elections, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has openly urged the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to effect the withdrawal of some of the names of the nominees who are allegedly APC members which had been recently submitted to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This particular request which had been contained in a letter written and signed by SERAP deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, on Sunday.

Terrorism Report: Buhari, Lai Mohammed & NBC Dragged To Court

In lieu of the detailed reportage on Terrorism in Nigeria which had been recently released by some media houses, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) have slammed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari, urging the court to “declare arbitrary and illegal the N5million which had been imposed on Multichoice Nigeria Limited, Trust TV, NTA-Startimes Limited and Telccom Satellite Limited, over their documentaries on terrorism in the country.”

Joined in the suit as defendants are also Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Following the massive outrage over the publication on the rising spate of terrorism in Nigeria by the BBC and Daily Trust, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has finally come out to kick against the threat to sanction the BBC and Daily Trust over documentaries on terrorism.

While reacting to the prolonged strike action by members ASUU community, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) group has openly urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do his best to meet some of the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

In another case of alleged misappropriation of Federal Government funds, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has slammed another lawsuit on the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari as they dragged him to court over his alleged failure to probe allegations that over ₦11 trillion meant to provide regular electricity supply since 1999 may have been stolen, mismanaged or diverted into private pockets.

In the past few weeks, most Nigerian cities have constantly been plunged into darkness as the electricity grid has collapsed at least 3 times in five months, and 130 times in seven years.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has blocked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from ending voter registration on June 30, 2022.

Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon (Court 10) on Monday granted an order of interim injunction following the hearing of an argument on motion exparte by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari ‘over his failure to probe allegations that over ₦880billion of public funds are missing from 367 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).’

SERAP wants Buhari to ensure the prosecution of those suspected to be responsible and to order the recovery of diverted public or any missing funds.

The suit followed the stern allegations contained in part 2 of the 2018 annual audited report by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation that ₦880,894,733,084.811 was spent by 367 MDAs without any appropriation.
