Microsoft Seizes Web Domains Used By North Korean Hackers

Microsoft said Monday it obtained a court order allowing it to seize web domains used by North Korean hacking groups to launch cyberattacks on human rights activists, researchers and others.

The US technology giant said a federal court allowed it to take control of 50 domains operated by a group dubbed Thallium, which tricked online users by fraudulently using Microsoft brands and trademarks.

“This network was used to target victims and then compromise their online accounts, infect their computers, compromise the security of their networks and steal sensitive information,” said Tom Burt, Microsoft’s vice president for customer security and trust.…

Customs Seizes Foreign Rice From ‘Buhari’s Storekeeper’

Operatives of the Border Drill Operations of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reportedly seized 140 bags of foreign rice at a warehouse in Daura.

The warehouse allegedly belongs to Alhaji Habu Sarkin-Fulani.

Daily Nigerian reports that the owner is a confidant of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Customs operatives, acting on a tip-off, stormed Fegi quarters in Daura, the hometown of the president, and seized the rice.

The bags were allegedly given to the president through Sarkin-Fulani before ban on importation of foreign rice was imposed.

FG Bars Onnoghen From Traveling; Seizes Passport

The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has been barred from travelling out of the country by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Saturday PUNCH reports that the move may be part of a fresh probe into Onnoghen’s affairs. Onnoghen was convicted for not declaring his assets by the Code of Conduct Tribunal in April.

The Katsina State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 1,365 bags of rice and 295 belts of second-hand clothing smuggled into the country with the duty paid value of ₦62 million within 10 days.

The Acting Comptroller in charge of the command, Mr. Kirawa Abdullahi, who stated this while addressing journalists in Katsina on Monday, added that nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizures.

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested 15 suspected smugglers and seized 1,345 bags of foreign rice and 300 bags of assorted grains along Mubi/Yola road, Adamawa State, during a routine patrol.

The Customs Comptroller for Adamawa and Taraba states, Mr. Kamardeem Olumoh, warned that “there is no escape route again for smugglers” in the two states under his control.

The United States has seized a North Korean cargo ship that’s suspected of being an integral part of the North’s alleged sanctions violations.

The ship, called the Wise Honest, hauled coal from North Korea that was sold in other countries, including China.
