Britain’s new parliament on Friday gave its initial approval to a revised EU divorce deal that sets up a high-stakes clash with Brussels over their future ties.

The 358 to 234 vote paves the way for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to deliver on his winning general election promise to “get Brexit done” by January 31.

But it also pushes Britain and the remaining 27 European Union member states closer to another cliff edge that could end decades of unfettered trade when the post-Brexit transition period shuts at the end of 2020.

EFCC Secures Conviction Of 111 Fraudsters In Southeast

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has obtained the conviction of 111 fraudsters in the South East between January and November, 2019.

The commission also said that it had secured the final forfeiture of N1.5billion state-of-the-art 200 bedded hospital linked to an aide to former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.

The South East Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr Usman Imam said this on Monday in Enugu during the 2019 International Anti-corruption Day.

Imam said that the commission had also secured the forfeiture of over N213 million and 10,609 US Dollars within the time under review …

Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has secured $200 million in funding via a partnership with sub-Saharan Africa financial services group, Atlas Mara Limited, in agreement with Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the United States government’s development finance institution.

In notification to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday, Union Bank said under the terms of the agreement, the bank will receive a 10- term credit facility of up to $200 million from OPIC for investments in digitisation, on-lending to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and funding for women-led businesses, as part of OPIC’s 2X Women’s initiative which aims to catalyse $1 …

MFM secures another victory in American court

An American Court has awarded punitive damages against breakaway pastors of the Bowie branch of Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) in Maryland, United States, for breach of trust and illegally hijacking the branch and its assets in 2017.

The judgment followed an action filed in 2018 before the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County in Maryland, USA, with suit number CAL16-26532 by the MFM International, seeking damages against former resident pastor and 11 other members for converting the church property to their personal use.

President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the French capital has won Airbus a $35 billion jet deal from China, dealing a blow to Boeing as it grapples with the grounding of its best-selling jet.The mammoth order consists of 290 A320-series narrow-body planes and 10 A350 wide-bodies, Toulouse-based Airbus said after the transaction was announced in Paris on Monday.
