Lagos Govt Orders All Schools To Resume September 5

The Government of Lagos State has mandated all schools to begin the 2022/2023 academic year on September 5 , 2022 (Tomorrow).

This decision was confirmed in a statement on Saturday issued by the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance of the state, Abiola Seriki-Ayeni which was obtained by Africa Daily News, New York.

According to Seriki-Ayeni, the date was approved by the Commissioner for Education in the state, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo.

Less than forty-eight hours to the terminal closing day of schools in the state, the Jigawa State government has directed the immediate closure of all public schools in the state following a series of security threats.

Some parents in Lagos State are against plans to reopen schools.

Earlier this week, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, spoke on plans to divide classes into morning and afternoon sessions, in a bid to reopen schools across the country.

Speaking to NAN on Thursday, some parents noted it was important for the federal and state governments to continue to safeguard children from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nigeria Orders All Schools Shut Nationwide

All schools in Nigeria–tertiary, secondary and primary have been ordered shut by the Nigerian government at state and Federal levels, to prevent the spread of coronavirus, with 12 cases now confirmed.

The sweeping order came after some state governments had given a similar order.

In Lagos and Kano, Nigeria’s most populous states, schools will be shut from 23 March.

The Lagos State Government has announced the indefinite closure of all schools from Monday 23 March.

In a statement on Wednesday night, government said it is closing down all public and private schools, as part of the measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Borno Builds ₦1bn Mega Schools

Borno government is to invest about ₦1 billion in the construction of two mega-schools in Maiduguri.

Commissioner for information, Alhaji Babakura Abba-Jatto, in a press briefing said the State Executive Council had approved N400 million for each of the schools to be sited in Njimtilo and Gwange in Maiduguri metropolis.

State-owned primary and secondary schools in Rivers have been directed to stop collecting fees and levies from pupils and students with immediate effect.
