Mixed reactions have trailed the defeat of Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha at the Supreme Court.

NAN had reported that the Supreme Court on Tuesday sacked Gov Emeka Ihedioha and declared APC’s Hope Uzodimma as the Governor of Imo State.

It, therefore, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the certificate of return from former Governor Emeka Ihedioha and issue Uzodimma with certificate of return as governor of the state.

The Supreme Court has declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as governor of Imo State.

The seven-member panel of justices today held that Emeka Ihedioha was not duly elected Governor.

Earlier in the day, the issue of candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Imo state has forced one of the candidates, Uche Nwosu, to withdraw his appeal at the Supreme Court. Nigerians have reacted angrily as the United Bank for Africa, allegedly sacked a large number of its staff numbering about two thousand.

The workers were sacked at the beginning of January 2020. Although the banking institution has not come with a reason for its action, an insider said the old staff were relieved of the duty to accommodate new ones.

Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (CHURAC) has commended the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to dissolve the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Ekiti Varsity Sacks 600 Over Illegal Appointment, Others

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday said it has sacked over 600 members of staff over alleged irregular employment, overage and sundry other allegations.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said the decision of the university council followed adoption on Thursday of the audit report carried out by a group of external auditors.

Olanipekun, who addressed journalists on resolution of the council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, said the sacking would save about N200m for the university monthly.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna, on Tuesday sacked two Kaduna State House of Assembly members.

The appellate court ordered that a rerun be conducted by INEC to determine who will represent Kagarko and Sanga constituencies in the state assembly.

In Kagarko, the appellate court ordered for a rerun in 22 polling units located in two wards of the constituency.

Adamawa Government Sacks Polytechnic Staff

Adamawa government on Tuesday issued sack letters to some academic and non-academic staff of the state polytechnic, employed from the year 2017 to 2019.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that those affected are over 300.

A letter to those affected, signed by the Acting Registrar of the polytechnic, Mrs Rebecca Kinjir, stated that the action was in compliance with the recommendation of the Visitation Panel to the institution, set up by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.
