Ondo Resident Doctors Commence Indefinite Strike Amid COVID-19

Resident doctors of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, UNIMEDTH, Ondo State on Tuesday commenced an indefinite strike.

The industrial action is coming amid the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

According to the doctors, during a press conference held in Akure, the state capital, the action became imperative following the non-payment of their salaries ranging from three to six months by the state government.

Recall that on May 8, 2020, the doctors had protested the non-payment of their salaries with a threat to embark on strike.

It’s Appalling To Say We’re Irresponsible – Ogun Doctors Fire Back

Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State have reacted to a statement credited to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, wherein he said he was disappointed in the doctors for “irresponsibly demanding wage increase from him.”

In a viral video, Gov Abiodun said he has done everything to satisfy the doctors, yet they chose to embark on strike at a time they should be saving lives, saying money should not be their priority this time.

Abiodun also said they were politically sponsored, adding that he would not be subject to anybody’s blackmail.

Coronavirus: Resident Doctors Call Off Strike

Gombe state chapter of Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off the indefinite strike it embarked upon on March 16.

Dr. Saidu Alhassan, the state President of the Resident Doctors association disclosed this at a news conference in Gombe on Sunday.

Alhassan said that the association decided to call off the strike for the sake of humanity and intervention by some senior colleagues.

Resident Doctors Condemn On-Duty Assault On Members

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja has condemned an assault on one of its members while on call on Saturday.

The Association in a statement signed by its President, Dr Adejo Arome and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, threatened to take necessary action if security agencies did not prosecute the perpetrators.
