Tragedy As 5 Die In Bauchi Boat Mishap

No fewer than five persons were reportedly killed after the canoe that was conveying them capsized in Jama’are local government area of Bauchi State.

Hon Saleh Muhammed who is the member representing Jama’are in the Bauchi State House of Assembly made this disclosure while speaking to reporters in Bauchi.

He said the victims lost their lives after hours of heavy downpour and windstorms in the area which also left many houses and farmlands destroyed.

Six National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members have been abducted and elections materials meant for Afafanyi and Igbonigoni House of Assembly re-run elections hijacked mid-sea along Etighidi River in Cross River State.

THISDAY  gathered that thugs suspected to be armed hijacked elections materials and abducted the INEC adhoc staff as they were about taking materials to Afafanyi and Igbonigoni wards for the rerun election on Saturday.

An eyewitness who declined giving his name alleged that the Corps members were accompanying the materials when suspected thugs allegedly abducted them and seized the materials.

Security operatives in Kaduna and Katsina States have not been able to rescue a lecturer with Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Abubakar Idris four months after he was abducted, THISDAY checks revealed.

Idris, an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, was abducted by yet-to-be identified gunmen on August 2 at his residence in Shagari Low-cost, Kaduna, Kaduna State.

As heavy rains lashed parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday afternoon, rescue services were frantically searching for a schoolboy who was swept into a flooded river.

IPSS Rescue’s Dylan Meyerick said teams were searching the Nonoti River in Darnall, on the KZN north coast, for the missing nine-year-old

“Rescue teams have been in the water … looking for a nine-year-old who was walking home from school and got washed off a low-level bridge,” he said.

Meyerick said rescuers had called for a sniffer dog to help them.

The police in Lagos have rescued a two-year-old child abducted from the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Church (MFM) regional headquarters in Agege in March.
