The Bolanle-Austen-Peters Productions (BAP) is bringing back to stage the musical, Fela’s Republic and the Kalakuta Queens during this Yuletide in a 10-day marathon show in Lagos. The play, which had won the hearts of many theatre enthusiasts in Lagos, Abuja, Cairo and South Africa in the past two years, is based on the true life story of women who are behind the music of the legendary Afrobeat musician and Pan-African, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the life in his commune known as Kalakuta Republic.

Niger Republic bans rice exportation to Nigeria

The Republic of Niger has banned the exportation of rice to Nigeria in any form, the comptroller-general of Nigeria Customs Service Hameed Ali said on Monday.

Ali while speaking to journalists in Abuja said the Niger Republic took the decision because Nigeria had closed its borders.

“Goods that are on the prohibition list in Nigeria, such as rice, used clothes, poultry products and vegetable oil should not be exported to the country,” Ali said.

“As a result of this border closure, Niger Republic has already circulated an order banning the exportation of rice in any form to Nigeria.”

Amb Kayode Oguntuase, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin has said that Nigeria’s embassy in that country was never attacked.

Oguntuase debunked the rumours in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

IMF approves Congo Republic bailout after China debt deal

The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) executive board approved a bailout worth nearly $449 million for OPEC member Congo Republic on Thursday, potentially setting a precedent for other nations struggling under the weight of large debts to China.

Congo’s economy suffered from a sharp drop in crude prices in 2014, and debt levels had ballooned to 118% of GDP by 2017. But even as its oil producing neighbors secured IMF programs, Congo’s negotiations for a bailout dragged on for two years.
