Kano High Court Remands Two Internet Fraudsters

The Kano State High Court presided by Justice Hadiza Suleiman thursday remanded the duo of Bashir Kashim and Mustapha Saleh in the correction service centre for alleged internet fraud.

They were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a two separate charges contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006.

The defendants, who are alleged to be members of a syndicate of internet fraudsters operating at No. 282 H/C Hotoro area quarters, are allegedly involved in duping the unsuspecting public of their hard earned money.

Court Remands Man In Prison For Assaulting A Policeman

A Kubwa Grade I Area Court on Tuesday ordered that one Hafisu Idris, who allegedly inflicted injuries on a policeman be remanded in correctional facility.

The Judge, Ibrahim Balarabe, however, adjourned the matter until Nov. 18 for hearing.

Idris who however pleaded not guilty is facing a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance of public peace, causing grievous hurt, mischief and public nuisance.

Court remands painter for raping 17-year-old girl

A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Thursday ordered that a painter, Zubairu Apaila, be remanded in prison, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

The police charged Apaila, 23, with three counts unlawful sexual intercourse with a child; exposure of a child to narcotics, and prohibition of a child from attending and remaining in school.

Magistrate Mariam Kings, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison, due to the gravity of the offence.

Kings adjourned the case until June 11, for further mention.

Court remands Naira Marley as artiste’s fraud trial begins

A Lagos Federal High Court yesterday remanded popular musician Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley in prison following his arraignment for alleged credit card fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) preferred an 11-count charge against him.

He pleaded not guilty before Justice Nicolas Oweibo, who adjourned hearing in his bail application till May 30 .

Justice Oweibo said he would be in  custody until his bail application is determined.

The offence, according to  Section 33 (2) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015, carries seven years imprisonment.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded a school teacher, Benjamin Ogba, who allegedly defiled four school girls under the age of 12.

Ogba, 44, is facing two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent treatment.

He, however, pleaded not guilty but was denied bail.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Friday ordered that a 45-year-old man, Celestine Onwusonye, who allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old girl be remanded in prison.

Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

Sule-Amzat ordered the police to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
