China’s factory activity was in expansion territory for a second straight month in December amid a thaw in a trade war with the United States, official data showed Tuesday.

The closely watched Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a key gauge of activity in the country’s factories, was at 50.2 in December, posting the same gain as the previous month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The reading — slightly above the 50-point mark that separates growth and contraction every month — beat a forecast of 50.1 by analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News.

Chile Confirms Finding Human Remains From Missing Plane

Chile confirmed Thursday that human remains and debris found by search ships are from a military plane reported missing with 38 people aboard, and the chances of finding survivors is “practically impossible.”

“The condition of the plane wreckage that was found makes it practically impossible that there are survivors from this air accident,” Air Force chief Arturo Merino told a news conference in the southern port of Punta Arenas.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has insisted that the defunct Savannah Bank remains a bank with an operational license even though it is currently not in operation.

The corporation further clarified that the bank is not presently under its purview as it has not yet been declared as a liquidated financial entity.

Naira remains stable at ₦358 per dollar in parallel market

The Naira yesterday was stable at N358 per dollar in the parallel. However, the naira depreciated by 41kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window rose to N361.95 per dollar from N361.54 per dollar last week Friday translating to 41 kobo depreciation of the naira.

The depreciation was due to a 65 percent decline in volume of dollars traded which fell to $113.86 million from $328.4 million last week Friday.
