PDP Lawmakers Reject Tenure Extension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the Plateau State House of Assembly have rejected the tenure extension for caretaker chairmen of four local government areas of the state.

Mr Sohchang Zimgtim, member representing Langtang South in the Assembly, spoke on behalf of his colleagues in a news conference in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had earlier conducted elections in 13 out of the 17 local government areas of the state.

AFN Board Members Reject Ogba’s Resignation

Board members of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) have described Evangelist Solomon Ogba’s resignation from the federation’s board as an attempt to divert attention from the $150,000 World Athletics grant given to the federation for the hosting of the 21st African Athletics Championships in Asaba, Delta State, last year.

Brown Ebewele, one of the board members, said Ogba should explain why the money was not paid into the federation’s account but a private account.

Doctors in Lagos State, under the aegis of Medical Guild, have rejected the new minimum wage paid to workers by the state government, saying it is below the expectations of civil servants.

Dr Babajide Saheed, Chairman of the Guild, made the doctors’ decision known on Monday at a media briefing on the Scientific Conference scheduled to hold on Dec. 3 and 4 in Lagos.

There was a major crack among the country’s opposition political parties on Sunday after 55 national chairmen of political parties rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The PDP had last Thursday asked the INEC chief to resign over statements allegedly credited to two INEC Commissioners; Festus Okoye and Haruna Mohammed, that the “card readers were circumvented” in elections conducted by the Commission.

Nigerian Governors reject calls to scrap security votes

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Wednesday kicked against calls for the removal of security votes, insisting that doing so would be inimical to development.

NGF Chairman and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said in Abuja that the abolition of security votes as being advocated by many in the country would breed chaos in the polity instead of curbing corruption as is being widely believed.
