P&ID: Court Refuses To Grant Adjournment In Trial Of Briton

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, overruled the British national, James Nolan, on his application for adjournment over inability of his counsel to prepare for his defence.

Justice Abang, who overruled Nolan, ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, to call his first witness.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that EFCC had, on Oct. 21, arraigned Nolan and Adam Quinn (at large), both British nationals, over their alleged complicity in the 9.6 billion dollars judgment against Nigeria.

Illegal miners at Glencore in Congo refuses to quit

A landslide last Thursday at the Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) concession, majority-owned by a subsidiary of Glencore, killed 43 people and led Democratic Republic of Congo’s government to promise to remove the miners.

The army’s inspector general, General John Numbi, told Reuters on Monday that reconnaissance teams were on the ground and an operation to clear the estimated 2,000 miners in the would begin on Tuesday.

Onnoghen refuses CCT conviction, heads to Court of Appeal

The former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, came out smoking yesterday after the Code of Conduct Tribunal convicted him for false assets declaration.

The tribunal came down heavily on the embattled judicial chief. It relieved him of his top judicial position, barred him from holding public office for 10 years and stripped him of all the funds in the five accounts he was found to have concealed.

“We shall avail ourselves of all the processes and the hierarchy of the judiciary,” Onnoghen’s lead counsel, Mr. Okon Efut SAN, said angrily in reaction to the judgment of the tribunal …

INEC refuses to recognise Gov. Okorochas as Senator-elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made good it’s word by not recognizing the election of Rochas Okorocha into the Senate.

Imo state governor’s name was missing among the Senate-elect who received their certificate of returns at the International Conference Centre Thursday.

Okorocha was said to have won one of the senatorial seats in Imo state.

Consequently, INEC placed an embargo on his victory at the poll.
