French Government Sticks By Pension Reform As Atrike Bites

The French government on Friday expressed determination to plough ahead with far-reaching pension reforms in the face of the biggest strikes in years, which have brought public transport in much of the country to a standstill.

The strikes, which began Thursday, have seen most high-speed trains cancelled, flights affected and most of the Paris metro shut down in a major challenge to the ambitious reform agenda of President Emmanuel Macron.

FEC Okays Justice Sector Reform, 500m Euro Loan For BOI

To improve the ongoing reform in the country’s judicial sector, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved what it called as a Justice Sector Policy for Nigeria.The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made the disclosure yesterday while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.He explained that the policy would ensure speedy administration of justice, quality administration and access to justice.

Polls opened in Uruguay Sunday with voters electing a successor to leftist President Tabare Vazquez and deciding on constitutional reforms including the establishment of a military police force.
Uruguayans will also be electing all 99 deputies and 30 senators in the Congress.

The vote comes on the same day as a general election in Argentina and against a backdrop of regional strife following massive street protests in Ecuador, Chile, and Bolivia, the latter over alleged electoral fraud.
