The House of Representatives has set up an inquiry into allegations of a possible corruption in the N-Power programme of the Federal Government. A motion of Urgent National Importance entitled “Urgent Need to Investigate the Arbitrariness and Possible Corruption in the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government”, was sponsored by Hon. United States Senators Call For Security Probe Of TikTok

Two senior US senators called for the government to study national security risks possibly posed by Chinese-owned video app TikTok, saying it could leave American users vulnerable to Beijing’s spying.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Senator Tom Cotton asked the Directorate of National Intelligence to “conduct an assessment of the national security risks” posed by TikTok.

“With over 110 million downloads in the US alone, TikTok is a potential counterintelligence threat we cannot ignore,” they said.

Schumer and Cotton suggested that TikTok’s owner ByteDance could be forced to share user information with Chinese intelligence.

Facebook probe by U.S. Expands To 47 Attorneys General

An antitrust investigation into Facebook ramped up on Tuesday with the announcement that 47 state attorneys general from across the U.S. have joined the New York-led probe.

The New York Attorney-General, Letitia James, said in a statement in New York.

Those chief legal officers of states and territories “are all concerned that Facebook may have put consumer data at risk, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, and increased the price of advertising,’’ James said.

She added that the inquiry aims to “determine whether Facebook’s actions stifled competition and put users at risk.”

US Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer called on the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a national security and privacy investigation into FaceApp, a face-editing photo app developed in Russia, in a letter sent on Wednesday.

Investigators are hitting the road today in search of lawmakers’ ₦900b constituency projects in states.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is verifying constituency projects executed by immediate past senators and members of the House of Representatives.

The commission said it will make recoveries on projects/contracts confirmed to have been inflated or in which contractors underperformed or did not perform at all.

To be verified are 180 key projects in the 36 states at the rate of five per state.

South Africa’s rand slipped on Thursday, as investors were unnerved by an investigation into a donation for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2017 campaign, leader of the governing African National Congress (ANC) party.

Police set to probe alleged rape of Abuja sex workers

The FCT police Command said it had set up a team to probe allegations of rape against some of its personnel.

The alleged rape was said to have occurred on  April 27, 2019 when some suspected commercial sex workers were raided at Caramelo Night Club by the FCTA Joint Task Team.

Some of the commercial sex workers alleged that they were harassed, molested and assaulted by some policemen.
