Obama Blasts Trump In Leaked Virtual Call With Ex-Staff

Former President Barack Obama described President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as “chaotic” in a conference call with former members of his administration.

Obama has largely kept out of the fray even as Trump has blamed him and his Democratic administration for a variety of problems related to having sufficient supplies to battle the pandemic that has killed more than 75,000 Americans.

But in his call on Friday with 3,000 members of the Obama Alumni Association, people who served in his administration, Obama urged his supporters to get behind Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who is trying …

Trump also said that he would like schools and universities in the country to open in September.

“This virtual teaching is wonderful, but [students] will be fine. We have to go back”, the US president said.

Most Americans Lose Faith In Trump’s Pandemic Talks

Many Americans appear to be losing faith in what President Donald Trump says about the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday, almost everyone rejected Trump’s remark that COVID-19 may be treated by injecting infected people with bleach or other disinfectants.

The April 27-28 public opinion poll found that fewer than half of all adults in the U.S. – 47% – said they were “very” or “somewhat” likely to follow recommendations Trump makes about the virus.

That is 15 percentage points lower than the number who said they would follow Trump’s advice in a survey that ran …

“Reports that H.H.S. Secretary Alex Azar is going to be ‘fired’ by me are Fake News,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“They are desperate to create the perception of chaos & havoc in the minds of the public.”

Hundreds Protest Against US Coronavirus Rules

Hundreds protested Saturday in cities across America against coronavirus-related lockdowns — with encouragement from President Donald Trump — as resentment grows against the crippling economic cost of confinement.

An estimated 400 people gathered under a cold rain in Concord, New Hampshire — many on foot while others remained in their cars — to send a message that extended quarantines were not necessary in a state with relatively few confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The crowd included several armed men wearing military-style uniforms, with their faces covered.

In Texas, more than 250 people rallied outside the State Capitol in Austin, including

Trump Was Too Slow In Virus Response: Poll

Nearly two-thirds of Americans say President Donald Trump was too slow in taking major steps to address the threat to the United States from new coronavirus, a poll published on Thursday said.

According to the Pew Research Center, 65 percent said Trump was tardy in responding when cases of the COVID-19 illness were first reported in other countries.

He initially downplayed the virus and has been keen to end the resulting lockdowns which have crippled the world’s largest economy.

The Pew survey was conducted April 7-12 among a sample 4,917 American adults.

It found that 52 percent said Trump’s …

As US Pulls Back, China Builds Influence At UN

As President Donald Trump announces a halt in World Health Organization funding, accusing it of kowtowing to China over the coronavirus outbreak, Beijing is building on a well-established strategy of leveraging its global standing wherever the US lets go of the wheel.

For years, Chinese nationals have been taking up positions at the head of and lower down UN agencies as the Asian powerhouse ploughs considerable resources into building on its international financial and military relationships.

China’s long game on global influence is particularly apparent in Africa, where 10 years ago the continent’s debt to the world’s number two …

US Virus Job Losses Hit 22m As Trump Eyes Restart

Job losses from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States reached 22 million on Thursday, government data said, as President Donald Trump vowed to unveil plans to re-open the world’s largest economy.

The new weekly unemployment claims data from the Labor Department indicates US employers purged 5.2 million jobs last week, a massive number brought about by business shutdowns and movement restrictions ordered to stop the virus’s spread.

And separate Census Bureau data detailed the virus’s damage to the housing market, with homebuilding sinking by more than 22 percent in March, while a Federal Reserve report showed plunging manufacturing activity …

Trump Threatens To Cut Off WHO Funding After China Rift

President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to cut US funding for the World Health Organization after accusing it of pro-China bias.

“We’re going to put a hold on money spent to the WHO. We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it, and we’re going to see,” Trump said at the White House coronavirus task force briefing.

Hours earlier, he attacked the organization in a tweet.

“The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look,” Trump wrote.

Trump Agrees With WHO On Face Mask Wearing

President Donald Trump on Friday recommended that Americans cover their faces with masks when outdoors to avoid contracting coronavirus.

The advice came on Friday with over 275,000 Americans infected by the virus and 7,067 killed over.

However, Trump said he would not wear the mask himself.

The decision was a policy U-turn for the country’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

It also breached World Health Organisation guideline about the precautionary measures people can take to avoid contracting the deadly virus.

The volte-face followed growing scientific research suggesting their widespread use can stem the spread of the coronavirus.
