Chile’s President Condemns Police Violence After Unrest

President Sebastian Pinera condemned on Sunday for the first time what he called abuses committed by police in dealing with four weeks of violent unrest that have rocked Chile.

“There was excessive use of force. Abuses and crimes were committed, and the rights of all were not respected,” the president said in a speech to the nation as it marked a month of turmoil that has left 22 people dead and more than 2,000 injured.

Bayelsa/Kogi: Police Service Commission Lauds Oficers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has lauded the police and other security agencies for their professional conduct during the governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi.

Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, gave the commendation in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

He said the commendation followed an interim report from the commission’s teams that monitored the elections.

Ani said the report indicated that the police and other security were very professional in spite of numerous challenges in the two states.

Gunman In US School Shooting Dies As Police Hunt Motive

The teenager who gunned down classmates at a California high school before shooting himself died Friday, leaving detectives baffled over the motive of a Boy Scout with no obvious alarm bells in his background.

Nathaniel Berhow died in a hospital one day after shooting himself in the head at the end of a 16th birthday rampage that left two fellow students dead.

Berhow had been in critical condition since police officers storming the campus found him lying among the wounded.

Mr Christian Ezike from Awo Idemili in Orsu local government area of Imo State has reported his wife, Ukamaka to the police for beating to death their two children, Chiwendu and Chinecherem,  2 years and 2 months old respectively.

Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte is receiving police protection after a threatening letter containing a bullet was sent to him through the post, Italian media reported on Saturday.

Suspected Cattle Rustlers Kill 4 In Kaura LG – Police

The Police Command in Kaduna state has confirmed the death of four persons allegedly killed by cattle rustlers at Marbar Agban in Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area.

Police Launch Assault Probe After HK Minister Injured

Police in London on Friday said they were investigating an assault after a Hong Kong minister fell to the ground as she was jostled by demonstrators.

Justice secretary Teresa Cheng had been due to give a lecture at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in Bloomsbury Square, central London, on Thursday evening.

But the CIArb said the event was cancelled because “whilst entering the building (Cheng) was assaulted by a crowd”. It added: “As a result, she sustained an injury to her arm.”

Senate: Police Trust Fund Takes Off January

Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Haliru Jika, said yesterday the long awaited Police Trust Fund would take off by January next year.

The Police Trust Fund bill was passed into law by the National Assembly in March and subsequently assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari in April.

The Edo Police Command has denied reports of a robbery attempts at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Benin.

DCP Ayoola Ajala, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, said that it was not true that there was a robbery attempt at the bank.

Nigerian security forces used tear gas and fired in the air on Tuesday to disperse protesters seeking the release of an opposition figure held since August after calling for a revolution.

The police in Kaduna State have arrested a Sharia judge, Murtala Nasir, and former chairman of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (PAN), Alhaji Sani Dauda for allegedly giving out the latter’s daughter, Nasiba Dauda, in marriage twice.

Nasir who is the judge of Magaji gari Sharia Court in Kaduna North Local Government Area, was said to have conducted the marriage on Saturday, November 9, 2019.
