Peru’s Congress Removes Boluarte: Congress Chief Sworn In

In an overnight session, Peru’s Congress unanimously voted on October 10, 2025 to remove President Dina Boluarte from office on grounds of “moral incapacity,” and within an hour swore in Congress President José Jerí as the country’s interim president. 

Boluarte’s removal goes to spotlight Peru’s recent political instability, making Jerí the nation’s seventh president since 2016. It comes amid widespread discontent over rising crime, weak approval ratings, and repeated attempts by opposition blocs to force her out — changes that could influence the lead-up to Peru’s April 2026 elections.

Police Invade Peru President’s Home In Search Of Relative

Peruvian Police on Wednesday raided the private home of President Pedro Castillo, according to several local reports, while a search for his corruption-accused sister-in-law continued under a court-issued warrant.

Since taking office in July of last year, Castillo has been the target of five criminal investigations, including one for graft. He has also survived two attempts at impeachment.

By Wednesday, footage aired on a number of media channels showed agents entering Castillo’s house in the rural Cajamarca province.
