The French government will unveil the details of a pension reform plan Wednesday that has already seen workers down tools in anticipation, crippling transport for a week as hundreds of thousands took to the streets in protest.

The French government on Friday expressed determination to plough ahead with far-reaching pension reforms in the face of the biggest strikes in years, which have brought public transport in much of the country to a standstill.

I’ll Comply With Order On Ex-Governor’s Pension -Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has promised to comply with order of Federal High Court which directed the recovery of payment to former governors serving or have served as senators and ministers.

The order was made on Wednesday by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Lagos division of the Federal High Court  in a judgment in a suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

Following the controversy surrounding the payment of pension to former governors and their deputies, Niger government has said it did not owe pension to its former governors.

The government said it paid what it called severance allowance to the departing political heads.

Pension Fund Assets Hit ₦9.58trn

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) yesterday said it has grown pension funds assets  to ₦9.58 trillion as at the end of September 2019.

This is even as the number of registered contributors under the  Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) has grown to 8.85 million.

The Acting Director General of PenCom, Aisha Dahir-Umar, said this yesterday at a  workshop for Journalists in Benin, adding that the growth, indeed, justifies the commission’s emphasis on the safety of pension funds as the bedrock of sustaining the CPS.

Mrs Dahir-Umar also assured all stakeholders that the pension reform was steadily on course.

PenOp: Pension Transfer Window Takes Off June 2020

The umbrella body of Pension fund administrators, Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), has revealed that the long -awaited pension transfer window will commence in June, 2020.

PenOp, however, said the exercise would depend on the ability of both the pension fund administrators (PFAs) and the regulator, the National Pension Commission(PenCom), to fine-tune issues relating to total cleaning of contributors’ data which had constituted delay to the take-off of the transfer window over the years.

The Imo Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has restated his administration’s commitment to the implementation of a veritable pension administration in the state.

The governor stated this in a goodwill message at the third quarter consultative forum organised by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Owerri on Wednesday.

Ihedioha, represented by his deputy, Mr Gerald Irona, said that his administration was committed to the welfare of pensioners through sustainable payment of pension.

104-year-old World War II veteran urges FGN to pay pension

A 104-year-old World War ll Veteran of the Nigerian Army,  Adamo Aduku on Saturday urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay his pension.
Aduku was one of those conferred with the Chief of Army Staff World War II Veteran Award at the 2019 Army Day Celebration in Lagos.
While speaking to journalists at the event, he lamented that since he was discharged as a Private from the Nigerian Army in 1957 he was yet to receive his pension.

Dickson declines signing life pension bill for lawmakers

Law will deepen poverty, says group as HURIWA seeks EFCC’s probe 
Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has declined signing the bill seeking life pension for former lawmakers as proposed and passed by the state House of Assembly last week.

The bill has caused ripples and attracted condemnation from Bayelsa people, as well as civil society groups, who were planning a showdown with lawmakers.

Commissioner for Information, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, yesterday quoted Dickson as saying that he conveyed the decision to decline assent to the Bill in a letter to Speaker of the House of Assembly.
